About nine of every ten gallons Las Vegas uses come from Lake Mead, drawn through the Southern Nevada Water Authority's intakes — the deepest, finished in 2015 with its low-lake pumping station, keeps drawing near elevation 875 feet, below the dam's own dead pool. The valley returns most indoor water to the lake for credit, so the city's fate is the lake's elevation, not its own use.
